I Knew You Were Trouble
With it’s big production and slashing chorus, Taylor Swift’s single “I Knew You Were Trouble”–from her 2012 album Red–takes the singer in a very different direction from almost anything she’s done before. The video for the song, too, is new ground for Taylor.
A few months ago it was nearly impossible to go anywhere without hearing Taylor Swift’s ever catchy “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” Taylor’s current single “I Knew You Were Trouble” is having similar effects. Everyone from Mike Tyson to Selena Gomez have been talking about the track, some even taking time to cover the song for themselves.
Going a capella the Canadian five-piece master every one of the song’s electronic elements and manage to even throw in a little nod to “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”
“The worst part,” Taylor says in the extended intro to her new music video, “wasn’t losing him, it was losing me.”
“As soon as I started writing this song, I knew it was different from anything else on the record so I knew I wanted the video to be different.”
What do you think of Taylor’s stripped down version of her new single?
When I read yesterday that Taylor Swift (ultimately a Country artist) dabbled in some Dubstep, I thought to myself… “um, say it isn’t so.” It isn’t as “Dub-Steppy” (Yes, I just made up that adjective… use it freely) as I think people are saying.
