Last week we put 92.3 NOW One Night Stand headliners Emblem3 up against local boys Timeflies in DJ Toro‘s Battle Of The Beats. In a surprise turn of events, Timeflies came out with the big win.

It just goes to show, the people who vote have the ULTIMATE power!

Cody Simpson On What To Expect From His New Album ‘Surfers Paradise’

Less than a year after releasing his debut full-length pop album, Paradise, 16-year-old Cody Simpson just announced new music is on the way. Paradise reached No. 27 on the Billboard 200 and produced Simpson’s catchy breakthrough single “Wish U Were Here,” which helped him garner a tour with Justin Bieber and a legion of zealous fans. While Simpson has much in common with Bieber–they both got their start posting YouTube videos of themselves performing cover songs–he had a hand in writing many of the tracks on his albums.

For the sophomore album, titled Surfers Paradise (out July 16), Simpson said he knew exactly how he wanted it to sound and the type of music he wanted to represent him as an artist. He describes it as a “classic summer album” and said to expect a few pop songs like his latest single, “Pretty Brown Eyes,” a light-hearted club track which introduces his rap skills, along with a few quieter acoustic tracks.

“I grew up playing the acoustic guitar and I decided I really wanted to go back to my roots on this album,” he told Radio.com. “I grew up listening to Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, and John Mayer so they definitely inspired a lot of the album too. There’s a really mellow, acoustic sound to it.”

Along with writing his own songs, Simpson also produced a number of tracks on Surfers Paradise, including “Awake All Night,” which he recently released online.

Jennifer Lopez & Pitbull ‘Live It Up’ In Sultry New Video

Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull have teamed up again for their latest party anthem, “Live It Up,” the lead single off Lopez’s yet-to-be-announced eighth studio album. In the new music video, the duo joins forces from the fashion runways in Paris to the beautiful beaches of St. Tropez.

J.Lo and Pitbull, two of the biggest Latin stars working in the mainstream pop world, are far from strangers. Their first collaboration came about during Lopez’s 2009 promotional single “Fresh Out the Oven.” Drawing attention to her upcoming seventh album, which would come to be 2011′s Love?, the track was written by Amanda Ghost, Lopez, Pitbull and Pharell Williams. The track charted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart and thus began the duo’s working relationship.

Next up was 2011′s catchy “On the Floor,” which topped more than 18 singles charts and became the most successful single of Lopez’s career. The next year followed with the sexy “Dance Again.” Then-judge Lopez performed the track on American Idol, at which point her racy grinding had some questioning its presence on the family-friendly show. Perhaps taking this criticism to heart, J.Lo toned down her set when performed “Live It Up” last week on the season finale of American Idol.

Miley Cyrus Announces New Single, Keeps Quiet About Justin Bieber Collabo

For the past year, Miley Cyrus has been hard at work on her latest album, giving out a few details here and there, but never letting fans get a listen. That is until now.

At the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 19) Cyrus announced that her new single, “We Can’t Stop,” drops on June 3. She isn’t giving much away about the sound of her latest song–produced by Mike Will, who has worked with Rihanna, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Kelly Rowland–but she did tell E! News that she’s been done with the song for “about a year.”

“I’ve had to keep my lips sealed and just not saying anything,” she explained. “So you’ll see.”

Cyrus did however reveal that the song is dedicated to her fans, the people who have never stopped believing in her.

“I feel like this song really is for them and how I feel—that I can’t stop and I’m going to be who I am and they should be who they are and that they can’t stop and no one can stop us,” she said.

Adding, “It really is an inspiring song for my fans. We don’t care, we can do what we want.”

Cyrus later tweeted the single’s album art: a black and white photo of her in a a risqué deep-V bathing suit that shows off her wild side and a whole lot of cleavage.

Rumors are also swirling that Cyrus is recording with Justin Bieber after she was spotted leaving the singer’s studio last week. But she’s staying mum about that too.

“I know pictures are flying around,” she told E!. “You guys will have to wait and see. I’m the biggest at top secrets.”

No official release date has been announced for her upcoming record–her first since 2010’s Can’t Be Tamed.

Bet They See NYC Based Rapper Kwame Darko NOW

Kwame Darko quickly shot from relative unknown to a household name after Tweeting a photo of himself and U.S. olympic soccer star Hope Solo cuddling up at a party in Manhattan immediately following the olympic fever of 2012. The internet went a little bananas because he jokingly said that Hope was his “boo.”

Since then Kwame, a pro-soccer hopeful turned rapper, has released the official music video for his debut single “Beautiful Thing” featuring Juno Brown in 2012, has toured with Big Sean and Sean Paul and now he’s back with a brand new clip for his second single, titled “Bet They See Me Now.”

Miguel Lands On Fan, Bieber Booed, Swift Wins Big At Billboard Music Awards

Chris Brown mimicked some fighting moves while Miguel actually (kind of) used some during the 2013 iteration of the Billboard Music Awards Sunday night (May 20).

The telecast featured a number of performance mixed in with various awards for the past year. Taylor Swift was a big winner, scoring eight awards including the night’s highest honor, Artist of the Year, as well as accolades for Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist and Top Country Artist.

Gotye, for major hit “Somebody I Used to Know,” and Rihanna were other major winners, the latter winning in the major R&B categories.

But the talk of the night ended up being Miguel’s performance of “Adorn.” Throughout much of the song, the R&B singer performed behind a screen that allowed images and words to be projected upon it, giving the performance an astral, otherworldly feel. Once the screen was lifted, Miguel trounced to the front of the stage, twirling and whirling before deciding to leap from one part of the stage to another outcrop, which involved traversing over a group of attendees.

But as Oregon Trail has shown us time and time again, you’re not to the end until you’ve hit the shoreline, and the singer just missed getting his whole body onto the stage, landing partly on two females in the audience, injuring one who reportedly walked away with minimal injuries.

Miguel wasn’t the only one who had a rough evening. Justin Bieber, who went the edgy route with his performance and leather attire, was honored as the Top Male Artist and scored the Milestone Artist award, a fan-voted accolade. But during his acceptance speech, Bieber took to some of his detractors.

Kanye West Premieres ‘New Slaves’, ‘Black Skinhead’ On ‘SNL’

A day after debuting new song “New Slaves” on the sides of 66 buildings in major cities around the world, Kanye West took the Saturday Night Live stage to showcase the song, as well as another new one, “Black Skinhead.” The tracks serve as the first taste of ‘Ye’s new album, Yeezus, which is expected for release June 18.

Following Kanye’s since-deleted “June 18″ tweet (and a slew of non-confirmation confirmations), Kim Kardashian appeared to confirm the release date and title with an Instagram photo showing the album’s packaging yesterday.

Leading up to his SNL performances, West appeared apathetic. In episode promos, he seemed dead-eyed and uninterested alongside host Ben Affleck, having already made his thoughts about SNL fairly clear at a surprise show earlier this week, announcing that he wouldn’t be doing any skits on the show (“Hell nah, I ain’t doin no motherf***ing SNL skits. This is my godd*** life. This ain’t no motherf***ing joke).

Avril Lavigne Talks Wedding Plans With Ty Bentli

Pop-rocker Avril Lavigne is back on the music scene with her new single “Here’s To Never Growing Up,” off of her soon to be released, as of yet untitled fifth album as well as the wedding scene – she was engaged to Nickelback frontman and fellow Kanuck Chad Kroeger back in 2012. The spunky singer recently visited the 92.3 NOW studios in NYC to chat with morning man Ty Bentli about her plans for the power couple’s big day.

“The most fun part has been coming up with the location,” says Avril, which is being kept under wraps. An obvious guess would be overseas, Paris to be more exact, since that is where singer has been living, recording and learning the language. Of course it was not all work; while there, Avril was able to talk Chad into getting his first tattoo.

“I couldn’t believe when I met him… ‘I was like you don’t have any tattoos?!’”

Avril’s marriage to Chad will be her second, you may remember the singer was hitched to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley. This time around, Avril has said that she wants to go all out for the ceremony and reception. But is there anything she feels is just too much? Does she want elephants?

“Believe it or not the thing that’s been the most pain in the ass is getting everyone’s names and addresses and phone numbers and stuff,” she says.

Justin Bieber Booed At Billboard Awards: Is Bieber Fever Officially Over?

His reign as pop prince is far from over thanks to some infectious hits (“#ThatPower”) and his millions of Beliebers, but Justin Bieber saw a little backlash last night on live television. After performing two of his singles on the Billboard Music Awards, Bieber was feeling like the world was his to own last night, and while accepting the Milestone Award (his second of two), he took to the stage to accept the mega award. However, some of the crowd took to booing, which threw Bieber off, causing him to stare in disbelief for what were some of the best two minutes of live television EVER.

Eventually he opened his mouth, and spoke some words on being 19 and how he feels he he’s doing a great job. That is when a couple more boos came. He closed his speech by saying: ”It should be about the music. This is not a gimmick.”I’m an artist and I should be taken seriously. This other bull should not be spoken of.”

Beyonce Heads To Instagram To Share Pic For The Haters

Is she or isn’t she? Beyonce has yet to announce she’s pregnant, but as sources have confirmed she is definitely ready for baby number two with Jay-Z. However, this weekend she took to her Instagram to put all of those rumors to rest. Well sort of.

“I can’t stop the rumors from starting, and I can’t really change peoples minds who believe them, all I can do is sit back and laugh at these low life people who have nothing better to do than talk about me.”

Does this mean she is squashing those rumors about her pregnancy, or was this some other “I’m going to bash my haters” kind of rant? In either case, Bey quickly deleted the picture from her account, which made people question even more that it was indeed about her pregnancy.

Per Beyonce’s usual promotion, she’ll announced that baby during an awards show.

Have you ever felt like a celebrity? Well Ty did this weekend! He went over to D’Jais nightclub at the Jersey Shore packed fist pumping party. A drunk girl wandered into Ty’s group of people, asking for a lighter. She was starstruck when she knew that she had approached THE Ty Bentli. She didn’t know what to do except keep asking him if he was Ty from 92.3!

She was so entertaining that it made him think… What do people see at their job?

Saadia, a receptionist at a doctor’s office called to tell us her story. She asked a man for a urine sample but it seemed like he didn’t like that idea. He denied her and as she was leaving 3 hours later, she saw him peeing in a Dunkin Donuts cup outside. She tried to drive off until he offered her the cup! That’s one Dunkin’ drink I would not want to taste!
