If you’re smart, you’ve already seen Katy Perry‘s full length feature film Part Of Me, which not only focuses on the artists recording and touring life but also gives fans an intimate glimpse of her personal life – her brief marriage to actor Russell Brand was the topic of much speculation throughout 2012.

“I got punched in the face,” Katy admitted to 92.3 NOW’s Ty Bentli when she visited our studios in NYC yesterday (August 12).

“When I was about to start the record last November… I was in kind of a dark place in my life. But I transitioned, I let a lot of light in – and that’s what a prism does. A beam goes through it and all of a sudden it shoots out all kinds of colors on the other side. And that’s how I feel like I am; I let a lot of light in, it served me well, it taught me great lessons. I feel like i’ve matured and grown and I can take on the next era of who I’m turning out to be and I’m so happy I get to shine all these beautiful colors and truths out to my audience through these songs.”

Katy’s new single “Roar” is now taking the world by storm, a fitting title and theme for her first new offering.

“It demands attention. you’re gonna hear me roar” says Katy. “It’s one flavor out of the record, I’m very excited to show the rest of it. I didn’t set out to make Teenage Dream times two, but I’m very proud of what I’ve done.”

“I went to Stockholm to make a lot of it – there’s an amazing, fresh, deep house kind of dance vibe that’s going on there – super nighttime. My surroundings influenced me – I got to work with one of Robyn’s producers, who I love, named Klas Åhlund. I worked with a lot of the same people as the last record because if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Keep an eye out for the October release of Katy’s third full length album, Prism, the follow-up to her highly successful 2010 release Teenage Dream.
