EDM DJ/Producer Kaskade has collaborated with everyone from DeadMau5 to Wolfgang Gartner. These days, Kaskade is trying something new–singing. He stopped by the 92.3 NOW studios to talk with DJ Toro about his new album and tour.

Obviously, the first time you hear yourself on the radio, is an unforgettable experience. Kaskade, however, said every time he hears one of his singles, it’s a brand new feeling of excitement. Sometimes, he said, it’s kind of “freaky.”

“You grow up with the radio in your house and in your car,” he said, “and to hear something that you created in the studio, something that’s personal to you and then get out and know that everyone’s listening to it, it’s a great feeling.”

The renaissance man also said he has a particularly soft spot for the exciting lifestyle that is New York City.

“The energy of NYC is unmatched,” Kaskade said. “I’ve traveled the world, but no matter where I go, there’s nothing like it.”

This is Kaskade’s eighth album, but this one is a completely new adventure for him. The new single, “Atmosphere,” has been the namesake of every bit of this project, including his tour, and album name.

“This song is very personal to me, it’s something I wrote,” Kaskade said. “It’s the first song I’ve ever sung on. This is the first time I’ve ever put myself out there as a singer. People are like, ‘What are you doing? Why did you wait so long?’”

He said the trend in the EDM community is to collaborate with the biggest names you can, but of course, Kaskade is a trend breaker. The “Move For Me” producer kept it close to home this time.

“A lot of friends on this one,” he said. “I was like, ‘You know what? I’m just gonna keep it close.’ Stick it to people I’ve worked with over the last ten years. Just keep it to my people really. A few little bits and bops here, but nobody that people are going to be like, ‘What? I’ve gotta get this record because of this one guy!’ It’s mainly me doing my thing.”

Be sure to pick up Kaskade’s new album and pick up your tickets to see him when he comes to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on October 5th!

Keep Up w/ Kaskade:
