The track is off her fourth studio album, “Lip Lock” which will be available on May 14th. This album’s release comes out elevan years since Eve’s last album “Eve-Olution.”
“Make It Out This Town,” a song about ”never let[ting] your circumstances hold you back” is the perfect first single for Eve’s reintroduction, considering her struggle with former label Interscope Records that lasted over a decade.
Her former label, Interscope, began embracing the dance music trend and ”that wasn’t something I was trying to do. I just didn’t fit in,” said Eve.
The “politics of the business” as she put it, delayed the recording process.
“After ‘Tambourine‘ came out in 2007, I was supposed to put another album out. I just had so many issues with the label and it took forever to get off that label. I went to another label and that didn’t work out,” said Eve. ”I do still want to put out music. I love my music. What would be the best situation? Now I’m independent and it just worked out this way.”
The rapper knew instantaneously that she wanted to team up with Gabe for “Make It Out This Town.”
“After it was finished I promise you, Gabe’s name is the first that came up for me. I knew just him as a person. We had a chance to just have a conversation and hang out. I got to see him perform and I was like ‘he’s so dope.’ Then when I heard this record his voice is the voice I heard,” said Eve.
The two had met a couple of months prior to Eve hitting the recording studio and really wanted to collaborate in the future.
“We were thinking about trying to do something together. Usually you talk to someone and they’re like ‘yeah let’s do something together,’ but it doesn’t happen so quickly. She was at that point in the record too, it was a perfect opportunity,” said Gabe.
Gabe’s guest vocals softened up the track and gave it a fresh sound.
“I really think Claude Kelly is the producer of the track. Really, the song was done before I got involved. I was just happy to be a part of such a great song. But obviously I think I have my own flavor to it,” said Gabe.
