Ed Sheeran started casually rapping the first verse of Jay-Z‘s “Empire State Of Mind” while kicking it with Ty Bentli host of 92.3 NOW’s “Ty Loves New York” morning show at City Winery in SOHO, NYC last week.

The reason Sheeran knows the rap so well is because he had to cover the song for a radio station over in England.

Due to the complexity of the rap, Sheeran had to listen to the track “a million and two times” in order to prepare for the on-air performance.

He spent so long trying to learn it that now every time he hears the words,”Tribeca, Bed-stuy, Brooklyn… it just clicks.”
