Frank Ocean can add another award nomination to his six GRAMMY nods. The singer is among the nominees for the GLAAD Media Awards’ “Outstanding Music Artists” category.
Ocean is joined by American Idol alum Adam Lambert, singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, pop band Scissor Sisters and indy rock band Gossip.
According to the GLAAD website, the GLAAD Media Awards honor “media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.”
Frank Ocean has gained lots of attention from the Gay community after he came out via social media in 2012. The Odd Future affiliate took to his Tumblr to tell a story about the man who was his first true love. In a post entitled “Basedgod Was Right,” a reference to Lil B, Ocean offered a prelude to what was to come:
“we’re all a bunch of golden million dollar babies,” he wrote, “my hope is that the babies born these days will inherit less of the bulls**t than we did.”
At the turn of 2013, Ocean made headlines again when news broke that he was pulled over for speeding by Mammoth Lake, California officers and was found with a bag of Marijuana. He brushed off that controversy with a simple Tweet.
“Hi guys, I drive a M3. That b**** fast..ok guys, bye: ),” he tweeted. “Hi guys, I smoke pot. Ok guys, bye.”
The awards, held in New York (March 16), Los Angeles (April 20) and San Francisco (May 11).
