Today, Aaliyah Dana Haughton would have turned 34-years-old.

She is one of the few artists that I have vivid musical memories of. I know where I was when I first heard “Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number,” Ralph McDaniels debuting “If Your Girl Only Knew” on Video Music Box, and having “More Than A Woman” on repeat every Friday and Saturday before hitting Club Speed so I can feel super confident.

Aaliyah is and will always be one of my favorite artists. Happy b-day baby girl and I hope you are resting in peace.

It’s super hard to narrow down my favorite Aaliyah videos because I love them all – but as of today these are my Fave 5:

Back and Forth

My dad had this song on vinyl and he rocked it everyday for a month when it first came out. This video is simply cool and fun. The best way to introduce Aaliyah who was the captain of the cool kids!

One In A Million

By now Aaliyah mastered the sexy tomboy thing,  plus we finally get to see Ginuwine’s beautiful face and abs for the first time!

Back In One Piece ft. DMX

This was a hood anthem; a song from a dude in the streets and his down chick. Love it, love Aaliyah in it and I even love DMX’s crazy a$$ in this video! By the way: Romeo Must Die is watched every time it comes on BET!

We Need A Resolution

The concept, visual effects and seeing Aaliyah all grown up and coming into being a natural sex symbol makes this one timeless. Plus, no one can rock a snake like Aaliyah did.

Rock The Boat

Even though this is the video that took Aaliyah away from us I truly love it. The choreography was incredible (my friends and I knew every step) the song it’s self is dope as hell and just the energy of the video is awesome. You can tell and feel that Aaliyah was healthy, happy and in a great place in her life.
