How Long Could YOU Go Without Makeup? How About One Year?
Makeup: Some women embrace the process of dolling themselves up while others simply dread the procedure. One woman, Phoebe Baker Hyde from the Boston area, decided to go one full year without makeup.
She says she was caught in a perfect storm of self-doubt when she decided to make this major change, “I felt that I needed to find a way to feel great. Because nothing I put on my body or wore on my face was giving me that self-confidence.” Phoebe talks about this transformation in her new book “The Beauty Experiment.”
This morning, the twins from ‘Ty Loves NY’ were running very late to get into work, so they decided to go commando today, sans makeup. Lala has no problem with facing the world without spending time painting up her face. Lulu, on the other hand, is very self-conscious. She spent her time in the office today hiding behind her hat and hooded sweatshirt. She wouldn’t even get on camera for today’s Dirty On the 30 recap.
That’s when we decided to grab Phone Screener Bryan and Producer Jason so they could corner Lulu and lift the veil for the world to see.
As for going with or without makeup, the girls are torn…
“I saw the story of the woman that went a year without make-up and all I can say is, God bless her,” Says Lulu. “I do like make-up but I don’t like to cake myself up like the Jersey Shore. I doubt I would be able to go a year without wearing any. With HD TV, the last thing I want to do is scare anyone away with my dark circles and baggy eyes. I do wake up at 3:30AM Monday through Friday so looking tired is not sexy. As a woman, I feel there is no excuse for looking like crap out on the street. A little bit of cover up, mascara and blush will always do the trick!”
But there’s almost NO chance she’ll be taking the year without makeup challenge.
“Now, I do like to get dolled up for an event especially for Fashion Week or award shows,” Lulu continued. “But the only way I would go without make-up for a year would be for a special cause!”
Alternately, Lala says she’s not really a fan of caking on the face paint.
“I’m not a big fan of make-up but I do enjoy getting all dolled up for an event,” said Lala. “Fashion Week is coming up and I can’t wait to get all glamorous and feel and look sexy! But that everyday, two pounds of makeup is just not my thing. I would take the challenge of wearing no makeup for a year. Seems like a fun challenge but it would have to have some meaning behind it, like doing it for a good cause such as St. Judes. I don’t think i look that bad without make-up, right????”
