Justin Bieber is taking on newsstands Friday as Rolling Stone’s latest cover boy. A stripped-down Bieber graces the magazine in a white tank and gold chain. He gets even more personal in his cover story, which shares an inside look at his life as a mega-star.
A behind the scenes video reveals scenes from his photo shoot including moments on a Malibu, California, beach and clips of Bieber strumming his guitar.
Bieber’s cover photo titled “Hot Ready Legal” echoes familiarity. The same three words were used in August of 2004 to describe then 18-year-old Lindsay Lohan’s Rolling Stone cover. Shortly after she was featured in the magazine, Lohan’s career reflected a downward spiral and some media outlets are speculating that this will bring about the fall of Bieber.
Eight years after her cover, Lohan’s making more headlines for her legal troubles than her movies. Meanwhile, Bieber’s on again off again relationship with Selena Gomez coupled with being pulled over for speeding and his baby mama drama from last year continues to keep him in the spotlight.
An excerpt of the cover story recounts personal moments including a Tonight Show appearance, a studio session and a quintessential paparazzi moment, when he is confronted by cameras while golfing on a private course. The singer was less-than-pleased, hitting a golf club at the group of photographers and telling an employee that, “we’ll probably never play here again.”
All things considered, the “Boyfriend” singer says, “I feel like I carry myself in a more manly way. I don’t carry myself as a boy.”
Manager Scooter Braun takes a backseat to the singer’s drama, speaking on concerns that the singer’s relationship with Selena Gomez lessens his appeal to teen fans.
“Personally, I think that’s all a bunch of bulls***,” Braun said in the story. “Yes, there’s gonna be some girls that if they see him with a girlfriend, it kills the dream – but there’s also gonna be girls that see him with a girlfriend, hear about the romantic things he does and want him even more.”
Bieber hits the road this fall with Carly Rae Jepsen, and his latest album, Believe, is available now.
