I haven’t talked about the serious girl power going on in this year’s super hero movies with you yet. So I’m going to. And when you have a job on the radio you can do what you want too!
We’ll be talking about the fancy ladies of the 2012 hero blockbusters (PS where did the blockbuster come from?) and how we may just find ourselves with a halfway decent Wonder Woman movie soon!
Here are some notable females from this year’s geek movies (please note: I can call these as such because I am a big, big geek).
Scarlett Johansson as “The Black Widow”
So, The Avengers kicked all the a**. It was spectacular! I’m an Avengers nerd and this movie really scratched my itch. As a reader of the comics, I can tell you that The Black Widow doesn’t really do much. She does as much as a hot chick with a gun can do in the face of maniacal super-villains. But in Joss Whedon’s Avengers, the badassery oozes off Johansson in a way I didn’t know possible.
Anne Hathaway as “Catwoman”
Catwoman is my FAVORITE female comic book character. I used to dress up like her when I was little and walk around the house meowing (true story). I don’t know if Anne Hathaway will be able to capture the feline essence as well as I did, but we’ll give her a shot. The Dark Knight Rises is right around the corner and Hathoway’s Catwoman will be put on trial, by me. Either way, the cat suit looks *amazeballs on her and she rides a great bat bike.
Emma Stone as “Gwen Stacy”
Not ALL super hero chicks have to be masked, you know. Gwen Stacy is Spiderman’s first love interest in the comics and before now, we never really saw her story. I can’t tell you how stoked I am to see Emma Stone give it the old college try. Stone is a human model of perfection and I really love Stacy’s story in the comics, she’s a strong, family girl from NYC and she kicks bums if necessary!
Those are only three of the fancy females gracing our theatres this year, there are quite a few more girls in action/ geek movies to feast your eyes on. I would love if one day, we got a Wonder Woman movie that meets my expectations. We can dream, can’t we?
We sure can dream.
