David Guetta’s new music video could either be in outer space, a video game or on the set of a high-budget sci-fi flick. Wherever he is, he creates a raver’s paradise in the clip for his sixth Nothing but the Beat single, “I Can Only Imagine,” featuring Chris Brown and Lil’ Wayne.
The cinematic video, which dropped today, is a visual mash-up of the futuristic Tron: Legacy and The Matrix – if they were populated by break dancers and skaters. The music video’s special effects bring the trio to an otherworldly nightclub where robots, smoke machines and neon lights create the perfect backdrop for Breezy’s famous moves and Wayne’s half-pipe. All the while, Guetta remains at the helm, steering the party from behind his glowing, free-floating decks.
“The concept of the video is David Guetta actually has this control room that’s made out of all holograms. It kind of feels like Minority Report,” explains director Colin Tilley in a behind-the-scenes video. “It’s got a really just crazy vibe, and he’s controlling everything that’s happening in his world. It looks very surreal, from a whole other planet.”
Nothing but the Beat brought collaborations like Flo Rida, Nicki Minaj, Ludacris, Taio Cruz, Usher, Akon, Timbaland, Jessie J and more, but Lil’ Wayne and Chris Brown bring a new level of star power to “I Can Only Imagine.” Guetta and Brown are no strangers. The two also worked together on a track called “Don’t Wake Me Up,” with house producer Benny Benassi, for Brown’s album Fortune.
“When you have three of the biggest superstars on the planet, you have to really plan, just prepare yourself for the challenge of getting all of this done in a certain amount of time,” Tilley said.
Guetta is currently on tour throughout Europe, and is scheduled to make his next U.S. appearance at New York’s Electric Zoo Festival on August 31. Nothing but the Beatis out now.
