It’s certainly not something you’d expect to hear come out of former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell’s mouth. At the end of his interview on CBS This Morning Powell busted out a few lines of the ever catchy Carly Rae Jepsen song “Call Me Maybe.” Luckily, the cameras were still rolling in this behind-the-scenes moment.
The song was first played overhead as the show went into commercial between segments. After Powell’s interview concluded it came back on and he started to sing along.
Just a week after the President Obama mashup hit the internet, Powell is the latest of recognizable figures to associate himself with the track. Everyone from fun. to Justin Bieber and even the Harvard Baseball Team have covered the track, possibly helping Jepsen to skyrocket to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Jepsen adds another achievement to the list as Billboard reports she’s the first female solo artist to send her first Hot 100 entry to No. 1 since Ke$ha.
Colin Powell is a former United States Secretary of State and retired four-star general in the United States Army. The statesman served under former President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005 as the first African-American to hold the position. His military career also included time as National Security Advisor, Commander of the U.S. Army Forces Command and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
