For a music fan, The GRAMMYs are one of the most important days of the year. Watching the GRAMMYs never ensures too many surprises except for the performances. Remember when [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]P!nk[/lastfm] did her whole performance while doing aerial acrobatics and everybody loved it except for the people who saw it on the MTV Awards? Remember when [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Britney Spears[/lastfm] performed “Baby One More Time”, dancing her booty off with robots? Those numbers were memorable for their own special reasons, but they weren’t the best.

I have the top five after the jump… do you agree with my list?

In light of the GRAMMYs airing Sunday, February 12th on CBS at 8 pm, I decided to highlight some of the best performances in recent memory. Share your favorite GRAMMY memories in the comments along with any performances you feel we should’ve put in the list.

5. Coldplay and Jay-Z, (2009)

Hova’s habit of making every song he features on about him (e.g. “Crazy in Love”) drives us insane. And “Lost,” a delicate ballad that’s probably Coldplay’s best song ever, barely survives his … Jay-Z-ness. But live, this cross-genre pairing works, and it’s precisely the type of thing the GRAMMYs do well.
