The pop categories at the GRAMMYs are always the closest fought, and this year’s Best Pop Solo Performance is no exception.
Bringing all the heavy hitters together, Last.fm Trends works out who’s going in with an advantage.
Let’s get straight to the point; P!nk and Bruno Mars don’t look like they’re going to take this one. While “F*ckin’ Perfect” and “Grenade” were great pop tracks the data from Last.fm suggests they’ll be more than lucky to get the nod this year around. Instead it’s down to Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Adele, who could each take the trophy for very different reasons.
On number of plays Adele’s on top. “Someone Like You” is one of the all-time most-played tracks on Last.fm, currently boasting 4,586,328 scrobbles, each scroble representing a single play of a track by a Last.fm listener. She’s followed very closely by Katy Perry, with 4,422,824 for “Firework”, more than double the plays of Lady Gaga’s “Yoü And I”.
While Gaga’s track has fewer fans, Perry comes out top here. “Firework” has so far seen 498,449 listeners give it a spin, tens of thousands more than Adele’s track which has seen 429,758 people give it a spin so far.
But Lady Gaga’s fans are the most fanatical. The number of plays per listener is highest for “Yoü And I”. She averages around 13.9 plays per listener, while Adele picks up around 10.4 and “Firework” nets Katy Perry just 8.8 plays per person.
With such a close call it’s hard to choose a favourite. Luckily, you’ll find out all the winners on CBS, February 12th at 8pm. In the meantime, be sure to tune in to GRAMMY radio for an aural guide to the nominees.
