Jay-Z Performs At Carnegie Hall To Benefit The United Way Of New York City And The Shawn Carter Foundation - After Party

Last night, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jay-Z[/lastfm] painted NYC’s iconic Carnegie Hall blue in honor of his new daughter, Blue Ivy. But he didn’t stop there! Backed by a 36-piece orchestra that included ?uestlove on drums and Young Guru on the one’s and two’s, the hip-hop mogul performed numerous hits and old school favorites at the famed New York City venue, all to benefit the United Way of New York City and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation..

As he’s done most of his career, Jay proved that hip hop has a place in any venue, big or small, as he blasted through radio hits and street favorites.

This was Jay’s first time on the Carnegie stage, and he brought along a bunch of big names with him too. Jay invited [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Alicia Keys[/lastfm] on stage for their hit “Empire State of Mind” as well as  [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Nas[/lastfm] to perform his own “N.Y. State of Mind.” But the biggest song of the night (and possibly his career) was when he performed the “Annie”-infused “Hard Knock Life.” Also on the set list last night were “U Don’t Know,” “Where I’m From,” “Izzo,” “Encore,” “So Ghetto,” “Ain’t No N—a,” and “Can’t Knock the Hustle.”

Jigga Man slowed things down nicely as he segued into “Girls, Girls, Girls,” Song Cry” and then “Glory,” the track he released just days after the birth of he and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Beyoncé[/lastfm]‘s first daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.

Before the song kicked in, Jay yelled “One hand in the air for Blue!

And afterwards, the emotions obviously got to Jay. “I didn’t think I was gonna make it through that one, that was tough,” Jay said when he finished up the song.

He’ll do it all again tonight with our man Nick Cannon spinning as DJ, with the second show again benefiting the United Way of New York City and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.
