Simon Cowell, the man behind reality competition shows America’s Got Talent, American Idol and The X Factor (among others internationally) is getting set to bring the best DJs of the world into your living room.

You know, like BET did for the past two years…

Well it looks like SOMEONE was a little jealous they didn’t think of Master of the Mix! Simon must have REALLY loved DJ YonnY… I’m just sayin’.

Aaaaaanyway…

Sure, the only DJs out there right now that you would be able to pick out of a line up would be [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Deadmau5[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Daft Punk[/lastfm] (because of their sweet, sweet helmets) and maybe [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Skrillex[/lastfm] (because of his Best New Artist nod at this year’s GRAMMYs… oh and those dorky hipster glasses of his)… but would you even notice if Calvin Harris, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Avicii[/lastfm], Swedish House Mafia, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kaskade[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Afrojack[/lastfm] or David Guetta walked by you on the street? OK, maybe Guetta…

That’s why Simon wants to turn the rest of the world’s spinners, scratchers and tweakers into household names.

“DJs are the new rock stars,” said Cowell, whose SYCO Entertainment will team up with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s Overbrook Entertainment to produce the new program. “It feels like the right time to make this show.”

Yeah, that’s what BET said two seasons ago.

There’s still no official name and no word on what network this will be showing up on yet, but Simon has reportedly been in talks with FOX and NBC for about a year now. We’ll keep you updated with new info as it comes out.

We asked our Resident Mixers here at 92.3 NOW what they thought of the new show…

DJ Lil Cee “thinks this is GREAT! I just hope they don’t focus just on scratching. It has to be well rounded, overall DJing, mixing, programming a night, talking on a mic and scratching.”

DJ Toro says “Yonny picked the wrong show! LMAO!”

DJ David S. says he thinks “it’s a cool idea, if it’s judged correctly. I’m happy see how far Dj’n has come in the time of my career. But remember this… Just because you own a laptop and bought someone’s music library…. Doesn’t make you a DJ! Looking forward to see what they do with it…”

DJ Jay Dabhi “find[s] it exciting that DJ culture is being recognized. There is a side of me that is a little reserved because I’m afraid they may water down the artform but I will not judge until I see it for myself. With Jada and Will Smith involved, that may mean the Fresh Prince’s sidekick Jazzy Jeff may also be involved – and that would be one huge stamp of approval since he’s an amazing, legendary DJ. I do hope they showcase all aspects of DJing, from technical skills to song selection and crowd participation…. All in all, I’m excited that a show focused on the art of DJing may hit primetime TV. We already had a 92.3 mixmaster (DJ YonnY) become a finalist on BET’s show… we may see another NOW guy on Simon Cowell’s show!”

DJ Suraci thinks “it’s great if it’s done right with actual legit, respected DJs judging. Would be nice to see a mix of old school DJs like David Morales and Todd Terry as well as new ones like Guetta and Afrojack and Hip Hop pioneers as well. That would add credibility to it. I just don’t want to see any Kardashians judging something that we as DJs have spent our lives trying to build and have respected.”
