Because I just can’t sit still in my apartment, I like to hop out on the scene to check out new, up and coming acts. I recently got to check out a new group called Riot In Paris, with the lyrical rap swag of Mercy and Pete, a talented guitarist with his ear on the music. Check out the pics and video  from Webster Hall and an interview from their CMJ 2011 showcase after the clicky click!

It was calm and settled in the “Studio” before Riot In Paris hit the stage in October. This was my second time seeing them in two weeks since I spotted them on the red carpet at the YRB Party with Nick Cannon. After I heard one song (“Pixel Love”), I was drawn to check out their show to see what this Rap/Rock duo was all about.

They’re a great duo for a few reasons:

They’re both from Brooklyn (greatest borough in New York!) and they sound a little like Coldplay with the addition of a [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lupe Fiasco[/lastfm] to the group for lyrical taste. Random but intriguing fact: They have already been touring in Canada.

You have Pete, the lead guitarist, who has a good ear for melody, whether it’s rap or rock. Then there is Mercy, a poetic surgeon who chops up his lyrics with his own experience and edgy flow (the way hip hop use to be!).

When combined, I was curious to see how all of their unique talents would sound. At first I felt like I was in a [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Beastie Boys[/lastfm] concert. It got really live in about one minute, folks were jumping, rocking and screaming for Pete to take his shirt off (which he eventually did). It was insane how even the people in the audience who had seen them for the first time live, like me, started jumping and singing along to the chorus. It was refreshing to hear stories about real life situations, they went from talking about drunk girls at the bar, to a girl who seems to be cheating on her man. Deep.

I also ran into Dyme-A-Duzin, Wordspit and LA at the show. LA has opened up for [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kanye West[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Big Sean[/lastfm]. LA is one of the few female lyricists I can put a stamp on nowadays. She did a great set and her mix tape, “The L.A. Riots,” is pretty dope.

She is another one to watch closely!!!!

It was a great show and I cant wait to see them tonight at SOB’s for the Ghetto Metal Showcase that is a part of the CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival. We’ll be sure to report back on the show! Hopefully we’ll see some of you there!
