Long gone are the days of artistic integrity and credibility and coming up with original ideas. I remember a time when we saw dancing and heard music in it’s most original form. OK… maybe not. But there is a lot to be said about the reality that if you’re gonna steal ideas in the internet age, you’re gonna catch some heat.

Enter the ever so lovely, talented, and guilty [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Beyonce[/lastfm].

Man, did she kill that performance on the Billboard Awards! I was so amazed because the concept was fresh and she came out in a way that I had never seen; but across the old pond, others had. Here’s Bey’s performance of “Run the World (Girls) at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards:

And while I’ve got the videos out, here’s the original joint from last year… FROM LAST YEAR!!! It’s by an Italian (Ey-Oh!) artist named [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lorella Cuccarini[/lastfm].

beyonce lorella Beyonce's Billboard Awards Performance Looked A Little Familiar...So I gotta say it…. Beyonce be fruh-in’ with her styles – and this isn’t anything new either!

Think back to “Irreplaceable”; she went on tour talking about how she wrote it for all the fed up women that were sick and tired of being sick and tired and what-not, when in reality [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ne-Yo[/lastfm] wrote it! Also, back in the day when there was this show on MTV called TRL, she almost got caught saying that she wrote “Emotion,”. Wrong again, it was [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Bee Gees[/lastfm].

So there you have it. Swagger jackin’ all over the place, all over your face and she’s just shameless about it!

What do YOU think? Is Bey a swagga jacka or is she simply paying tribute? Sound off in the comments section below!

  • oh come on

bet there’s no post on this site that mentions LADY GAGA’s MULTIPLE (if not CONSTANT) ARTISTIC PLAGIARISMS…wouldn’t even be enough space on your servers for that. when gaga lifts an idea, she doesn’t tell anyone, we end up figuring it out for ourselves.

yes, beyonce lifted the original concept, of course with permission, but she completely re-imaginized and recreated it–she made it better. thats what artists do.

You should be ashamed of your unabashed remarks; calling her “guilty” and aboriginal. But I understand, you probably wrote this article in the manner of provocative journalism…tryna get ur views up eh?

“It is easy to point a finger at Beyonce and call her a copycat. She sought out the same artist and production company that created Lorella Cuccarini’s performance to help her create a show where she interacted with graphic designs and objects placed on a large video projection screen. Both performers used the artist Kenzo Digital and the Tribe Inc. Design production company to develop the images and technical work in the shows.

Instead of calling Beyonce a copycat, viewers should praise her dedication to pushing the envelope of entertainment. Because of her show, other entertainers will start to integrate technology into their new shows, videos, and other presentations in new and innovative ways. The entertainment industry will advance because Beyonce explored her inspiration and was willing to work hard to make it a reality.”-entertainment.gather.com

YEAH, SOME PEOPLE CITE THEIR SOURCES. lol this convo is dead.

    hey “oh come on,”
thanks for taking the time to respond to the article, I believe that dialogue is great. Your views are appreciated and I agree that there are a lot of artists who’s ideas are, how should I put it, inspired by other less known sources; that’s not my beef, in fact, I don’t have one. This is social and pop culture commentary that I’m dropping in this particular article. Beyoncé is a great performer and as I said before, she killed it but she’s also known to publicly take credit for ideas that are not hers and that was the point of my satirical final sentence. I love your passion! Thanks again for reading!

Its partially beyonce’s mistake for hiring the same team who was responsible for lorella’s video. The team replicated the same technique with the same kind of graphics and that failed her. It’s ok for beyonce to be “inspired” from that concept and use it for her performance, but she should have come come with different graphics and concept by using the people who worked on lorella’s performance. It’s no use being inspired by a concept and not using it in her own way and make it better than lorella’s. Even though she worked hard on it, she pretty much would have been better off without the power point presentation.

Michael Jackson did not invent the Moonwalk, but tell me who’s ever done it better! Beyonce’s performance enhanced and refined this type of art. It was incredible. That being said I can agree with critics that sometimes the media overhypes and saturates us with way too much Beyonce. Just turn the channel and listen to some great Jazz or whatever else you might like.
