Can’t a woman have a baby then cast her baby-daddy aside in peace anymore?

Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi is going to have to defend her parenting style in court, as her daughter Krishna‘s biological father, Adam Dell, wants in on the parenting action, and wants the baby’s name to be changed to reflect his last name.

[photogallerylink id=37499]Sources from the Dell camp say that Padma is a selfish mom, who would rather be galavanting around the globe than playing mommy to Krishna, and that she is “either unable or unwilling to moderate either her social or business travel” to fulfil her role as mother.

In response, Padma’s spokeswoman Christina Papadopoulos said, “Ms. Lakshmi’s sole interest lies in preserving the privacy and welfare of her daughter and in working out a fair and amicable agreement out of the media’s glare.”

…and also that she only learned about the filing via the media:

“24 hours after the New York Post was told about Adam Dell’s lawsuit, neither Padma Lakshmi nor her lawyers has received a copy of it; they only learned of it through a statement Mr. Dell provided to the press,” her rep said.

Dell also seems to be a bit peeved that Padma has been encouraging baby Krishna to call her new boyfriend, Ted Forstmann, “Papa”.

Dell is suing for full custody of the baby, but says he would be happy to include Padma in the baby’s life, right after he legally changes her name to Krishna Lakshmi Dell.

Sounds like a type of pickle.

Let the unhappy childhood begin, there’s nothing like custody battles to make an baby feel all loved and secure.
