The show opened with host Jimmy Fallon and the cast of Glee singing [lastfm]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm]’s “Born to Run.” The cast was joined by Tina Fey, Jon Hamm, Kate Gosselin, Jorge Garcia and more celebs throughout the skit. The opening act ended onstage with Fallon singing the end of the tune for the live audience, with American Idol judge Randy Jackson accompanying him on bass.
Jimmy kept up with the musical theme by carrying around a guitar and playing throughout the show. Some of his singing partners included Kim Kardashian, Amy Poehler, Stephen Colbert and more.
Jimmy gave a send off to 24, Law & Order and Lost, which all ended this year. For his tribute he dressed up as [lastfm]Elton John[/lastfm], pink piano and all, for a goodbye to 24, took on the role of a member of [lastfm]Boyz II Men[/lastfm] to wave goodbye to Law and Order, and did his interpretation of Billie Joe Armstrong from [lastfm]Green Day[/lastfm] to the tune of “Time of Your Life” to send off Lost.

George Clooney won the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award. His ER co-star Julianne Margulies presented him with the award and he received a standing ovation from the crowd. In his short, but to the point speech, he asked that we keep focus on heartbreaking situations around the world, long after the cameras go away.
[lastfm]Jewel[/lastfm] performed her song “Shape of You” during the In Memoriam segment of the show, which remembered Corey Haim, Gary Coleman, Rue McClanahan, Brittany Murphy, Lena Horne, Dennis Hopper and more.
