Ryan Peters, better known as Spose, scored a huge hit with his breakthrough, Eminem flavored song, “I’m Awesome.” Two months ago, the rapper from Wells, Maine was just an aspiring rapper with a day job.

Spose Talks Unemployment:

“Actually the day I quit my job and filed for unemployment, like two months ago, was the same day I got a call from Universal. So it was just really lucky, ’cause I was looking like a schmuck and then I was looking pretty good.”

[lastfm]Spose[/lastfm] added that he stayed on unemployment for a bit after getting signed.

“I actually was for a few weeks… because the way the big corporate machine works, you don’t get money right away. So I was like singed to a major label overdrafting my credit card to get gas, but I did mooch the state of Maine unemployment for a little while… sorry state of Maine.”

Spose‘s debut single, “I’m Awesome”, peaked at number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart back in April. It dropped to number 79 last week.
