The latest R&B songstress to come out of Barbados, Shontelle, is making a statement with her hit song “Impossible“.

In the past couple of years, [lastfm]Shontelle[/lastfm] has been stuck in the shadow of her friend and fellow Barbadian, [lastfm]Rihanna[/lastfm], as their careers have taken different paths since both were signed in 2005.

Shontelle’s debut album, Shontelligence, was released on November 18th, 2008 – only selling around 1,000 copies, far below any expectations. The latest effort, titled No Gravity, will be released this summer and is said to have a more edgier sound, with a small rock influence.

Her latest single, “Impossible“, has begun to make its way up the charts, giving Shontelle a wider audience and range that can finally separate her from Rihanna. The song is very inspirational and it’s a great comeback song that exposes the feelings she may have had during the first album – and the video is a great visualization of her struggles, professionally and personally.

The only question that still remains is whether or not the world is ready to finally give Shontelle a chance?
