Lil’ Miss Sunshine Causing a Stir on Broadway

Abigail Breslin If there is one young celeb I never for a minute thought would be making headlines on the gossip pages, it was Abigal Breslin.

You know Abigail, she’s that adorable kid with the stylin’ dance moves from Little Miss Sunshine. She’s just so wholesome, so normal. But, there she was causing a stir in New York gossip headlines. To be fair it’s not really her fault, but the poor kid is catching a lot of slack for it.

What’s it? It seems that dearest Abby will be playing the role of the young Helen Keller in the upcoming revival of The Miracle Worker on Broadway. Sharon Jensen, executive director of the Alliance for Inclusion in the Arts, and her group are protesting the shows producers (and Abigail), stating it should be a young deaf actress playing Ms. Keller, not the fully sight and hearing gifted Breslin.

Producers on the other hand say, and I’m paraphrasing here, that it’s really hard to make money on Broadway, especially with a revival. If money is to be had, so is a celebrity to fill seats. They also said that they planned on auditioning deaf actresses for Breslin’s understudy.

I see where they are both coming from, but in the end I just feel really sorry for Abigail. She’s just a kid with this amazing opportunity to star in a Broadway show and now there are bunch of grown-ups telling her she’s unworthy.

That’s pretty craptastic if you ask me. And I’m pretty sure you did.
